Today, we’re excited to announce Beeper Mini. It’s our beautiful new Android app built specifically to send and receive blue bubble messages to friends with iPhones.

It’s available to download today, no waitlist. Get it now on Google Play!

Get it on Google Play

Beeper Mini has four major new features:

  • Your Android phone number is now a blue bubble.

  • Beautiful new design, blazing fast speed.

  • Full end-to-end encryption.

  • It’s a standalone Android app – no server, laptop, Mac or iPhone required.

Your Number Is A Blue Bubble!

Now you can send and receive blue bubble texts from your phone number. As soon as you install Beeper Mini, your Android phone number will be blue instead of green when your iPhone friends text you. It’s easy to join iPhone-only group chats, since people can add your phone number instead of your email address. All chat features like typing status, read receipts, full resolution images/video, emoji reactions, voice messages, editing, un-sending, and more are supported.

Increased Security and Privacy

Unlike every other attempt to build an Android app like this (including our first generation Beeper app), Beeper Mini does not use a Mac relay server in a data center. Instead, the app connects directly to Apple servers to send and receive end-to-end encrypted messages. Encryption keys never leave your device. No Apple ID is required. Beeper does not have access to your Apple account. Learn more about how Beeper Mini works.

Beautiful New Design

While creating Beeper Mini, we focused on making it blazing fast with all the modern chat features you expect. We simplified the experience to be clean, modern and straightforward, and we brought our favorite features of blue bubbles to Android through Material Design. Our vision for Beeper Mini was to bridge the best of both worlds, allowing you to chat with iPhone friends confidently in a cohesive and interoperable way.

Beeper Mini is free to try for 7 days. After that, the app is $1.99 per month. Our business model is simple: we build a great app and earn money from those who find value in it. We feel that this business model aligns our success with your best interests. No ads. Complete data security and privacy. And we stay incentivized to continue improving Beeper Mini with new features and improvements.

Download the app today on the Google Play store and try it out for yourself!

Mini FAQ

What if I’m already using Beeper?

Beeper Mini works great alongside Beeper Cloud (previously known as Beeper)! You can use Beeper Mini to register your Android phone number, then continue to use Beeper as your primary chat app. Just remember to keep Beeper Mini installed, as it periodically re-registers your phone number. If you prefer to use Beeper Mini for chatting, you can disable double notifications inside Beeper Cloud → ⚙️ gear icon → Notifications.

What about all the other chat networks?

Over time, we will be adding support for 15 chat networks into Beeper Mini. Encrypted chat networks, like WhatsApp and Signal, will connect directly rather than going through a cloud server and be fully end-to-end encrypted in Beeper Mini, similar to iMessage. Read more about our product roadmap.

How does Beeper Mini work? How secure is it?

Beeper Mini is fully end-to-end encrypted. Your messages are end-to-end encrypted. Neither Beeper, Apple, nor anyone except the intended recipients can read your messages or view attachments. No Mac relay server is used. Beeper does not have access to your Apple account. All messages are processed locally within the Beeper Mini Android app. No cloud Mac server is in the loop, unlike all other competing apps.

This is really impressive! I’d love to know if there are plans to use a phone number already tied to an iPhone from an Android device. My use case is to be able to use my android device to send and receive iMessages associated with my iPhone. That use case is covered by Beeper Cloud, but the “no server” approach here feels a lot less risky for me, and I’d love to use it that way. Great work on this!

Is this something that we will be able to self-host similar to self hosting Beeper Cloud- or will this remain exclusive to beeper?

There’s nothing to host. The app connects to Apple directly.

This is huge! I think it’s a very clever move by Beeper and I think this is the right approach to become mainstream. It could be a massive business!

I’d have to wait and see the security and privacy claims being confirmed by 3rd parties (either independent audit or open sourcing the code) before using it. But it would be great if I could stop self-hosting my bridges.

Too bad this will mean one less contributor to the Matrix ecosystem

The code is open-source already. Beeper teamed with the person who reverse-engineered iMessage to make this work.

I really hope the success of this shows other developers that developing great apps for Android can pay off. Just need Craft and Bear notes to understand that. There are many incredibly functional apps, and quality Google apps, but so few truly thoughtfully designed. I understand that Apple makes it easier to design for fewer devices than the Android world which is basically infinite, but that also means developers are missing out on a massive community.

All mini needs is chat importing. Ive always said apple needs to pull up there Panties and release imessages on Android.

I applaud the new direction not to use cloud servers as it’s much more scalable, but this road map is a slap in the face to the beta testers of Beeper who were told there would be a free version alongside Beeper plus. Now were essentially being told the app we tested for you will be depreciated and we’re being forced to pay a monthly subscription?

Love the app, but I’m not shelling out a monthly subscription for Beeper. I’m a long believer of owning the things I use and since you guys don’t offer lifetime subscriptions (which I wouldn’t even mind shelling out $30-50 for), now seems like a perfect jumping off point for the people who won’t pay monthly subs.

Add yet another subscription to my life just so Apple users can feel better about their extremely limited iDevice? No thanks. Maybe Apple should get off it’s high horse and adopt full RCS integration like the rest of the world. This is a solution to a problem that shouldn’t exist… Unlike other manufacturers who sell their products based on features, Apple’s business model is built on brainwashing it’s customers into thinking they’re better than others because they have blue bubbles and a fruit on the back of their device. I applaud Beeper for getting this to work, but the fact that Android users are expected to pay for an app to fix an Apple problem seems idiotic to me.

I know, making this product even less valuable. I just find it ridiculous that people get bent out of shape over colored text bubbles. And now we have to have a product to appease people’s arrogance and submit to Apple’s manipulative marketing? No thank you. Apple should have fully adopted RCS years ago, like every other major manufacturer on Earth.

I’m ecstatic about this. Finally no more shame from my rich friends (even though my phone cost just as much or more 🤣). I love having what I call “RCS” features for my iPhone friends now too. I can basically send full size videos to all my contacts now and not just Google Messages users. I can’t wait until Beeper Mini converts all the chat networks Beeper Cloud has (I’ve been on the wait list for months) so it can be my ONLY chat app.
Thanks team! I really hope there’s no silly legal issues that derail this. I’ll sign any petition and donate up to $50 for legal fees to keep this a float.

PS. I’d donate more if I could but I’m poor. Why else do you think I use Android and Linux (my computer). 🤣

    Hey,
Wondering if this is a possibility…

My work phone is an iPhone. My personal is a S23 Ultra. I want to be able to receive and send texts off my personal phone for my work iPhone. Beeper Mini seems to work great for that aspect.

Ran into some problems today though.

I would like my personal number be optional to be considered imessage compatible. I would like to be able to log into my apple account and text from the number my work number has. It has worked great for the most part.

I wanted to use 2 separate messaging apps. One for my personal number (RCS Google Messages) and Beeper Mini for my work number.

When I start using beeper it starts sending all my texts from iPhone friends to my personal Android number to Beeper app instead of Google Messages..

I wanted to be able to separate my work from personal texts using 2 apps on 1 phone. It does not work though.

Any work arounds coming for this? A way to set it up so it only receives texts to a specific phone number? I love how it worked for iMessages. I don’t like that I can’t keep them separated though.

I’m skeptical that it took so long to reverse the iMessage protocol in ten years – I’m sure the work had been done before, but legal strongarming got in the way. I fully expect Apple lawyers to have a DMCA, lawsuit and injunction motion sealed, signed and delivered by Monday in response to Beeper Mini in a high-key attempt to stop users from breaking free from the Apple ecosystem. I’m gonna download the app in case this does happen. It’s just too revolutionary. If this app survives a week, feel free to take my money.
